The Medina County Health Department’s Environmental Division is seeking qualified applicants for a Sewage and Water Programs Registered Sanitarian or Sanitarian-in-Training. The Job Position Description includes the following:

Primary duties include:

• Conducting on-site inspections for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of new and existing sewage and water system installations to ensure they meet required health standards (i.e., private household sewage systems, small commercial sewage systems up to 25,000 gallons per day capacity, private water systems such as wells, cisterns, ponds, and springs).
• Evaluating the suitability of soil for on-site wastewater disposal, real estate evaluations, analyzing subdivision plans submitted by developers/engineers/surveyors, lot evaluations, etc.
• Enforcing compliance with state sewage and water regulations.
• Investigating sewage and water public health nuisances.
• Educating and consulting with the public, owners, and operators on public health issues related to sewage and water systems from acquired inspection data.
• Writing reports and correspondence.

  There is extensive on-the-job training. The position involves facets of microbiology, chemistry, geology, earth science, environmental law, teaching/instruction, and public relations.

  Applicants must:

  • Have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree with at least 45 quarter units or 30 semester units of coursework in environmental health, environmental health sciences, or in the physical, chemical, or biological sciences.
  • Be an Ohio Registered Sanitarian or Ohio Registered Sanitarian-in-Training.
  • Have a valid Ohio driver’s license.
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Have proof of auto liability insurance.
  • Have good analytical, writing, and oral communication skills.

    Computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access) and GIS/GPS is preferred, but not required.
