Medina County Board of Health
Local Health Districts were created by the Ohio State Legislature and, therefore, are political subdivisions of the State of Ohio.  The Medina County Board of Health is the governing body of the Medina County Combined General Health District.  Its territorial jurisdiction consists of all of Medina County townships, villages, and cities.

The Board consists of seven members who are appointed for staggered six-year terms, one appointment changing each year.  All members must reside within the Health District and may not hold elected office.  At least one board member must be a physician, licensed to practice medicine in the State of Ohio.

The Board appoints a Health Commissioner, who is Executive Officer and Secretary to the Board.  The Health Commissioner ensures that day-to-day functions of the Health District are carried out and advises the Board on all matters pertaining to public health within the jurisdiction.

The Board has quasi-judicial authority and is the policy-making body for the Health District.  It has authority to adopt rules and regulations, which have the status of law.  The Board must meet at least once each month and may hold as many special meetings as it deems necessary.
