Free Classes

Classes are provided by the staff of the Medina County Health Department, WIC and Nursing Divisions and the Medina County District Library. All classes are FREE and open to the public! Check our calendar here for dates and times. All classes are located at The Medina County Health Department.
 
Classes include:
  • Breastfeeding - Give your baby the healthiest start in life - Breastfeed! Learn the benefits of breastfeeding, how to build a support system, and techniques for successful breastfeeding.
  • Car Seat Safety Inspections - 4 out of 5 car seats are installed incorrectly. Make sure yours is not one of them! Schedule an appointment to have your car seat inspected for safety and individualized instruction on installing your car seat.
  • Gym Class - Introduce fitness activities to keep you and your child healthy for a lifetime while spending quality time with your child participating in fun activites. (Ages 3-5)
  • Infant Feeding - Get your child off to a good start. Learn the order and techniques for the introduction of solid foods into your infants diet. 
  • Mom and Me Cooking Class - Prepare and taste simple and healthy food with your preschooler (ages 3-5). Your picky eater might even try something new!
  • Moms Group - A friendlly atmosphere of breastfeeding mothers offering support to each other, making new friends and sharing practical experience. Discuss concerns, successes and benefits of breastfeeding. Children are welcome.  
  • Pediatric CPR - A very important skill that every parent should know and hope theyll never need. The class includes hands-on practice of infant and child CPR. Taught by an American Heart Association Instructor. (This class in a non-certificate class).
  • Preparing for Labor - Let us help you prepare for one of the most important days in your childs life. This class will help you to consider the choices that are available to you and your labor and the birth of your baby.
  • Story Time - Spend quality time with your child listening to Miss Shirley read stories with her own special presentation.


Community Activities


There are many places in your community that offer activites and education to you and your family.
The Ohio State University Extension has many fun activites to do and a lot of educational programs.

Baby Fair will be held in the Edward A. Hall Conference Center at Medina Hospital, located at 1000 East Washington Street. Please park in lot B and use Entrance A. For more information, contact Jamie McNeeley, IBCLC with the Medina County Health Department at 330-723-9629

WIC Nutrition Education - Do your next nutrition education right here! After completing the lesson, email your certificate to wicmedina@odh.ohio.gov or print your certificate to bring to your WIC appointment.

  • www.choosemyplate.gov  This website gives information explaining the importance of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and teaches individuals how to use the MyPyramid. This website allows individuals to develop a food guideline that is specific to their energy and nutrient needs based on their age, gender and activity level. Interactive tools and games make learning nutrition fun. In one interactive tool an individual can enter the food consumed and the website will calculate how many calories were consumed and what nutrients are lacking from the individuals’ diet. Interactive games on this website engage children to learn about nutrition and develop healthy dietary habits.
  • www.nutrition.gov  This website provides numerous links to government websites that provide current and accurate information about nutrition. This website also provides resources to receive information on campaigns that help fight obesity in adults and children, building strong bones, and increasing fruit and vegetable intake.
  • www.eatright.org  American Dietetic Association website gives basic nutrition information. Gives details where to find a dietitian in the area that can help you. Basic and more advanced nutrition information is provided to the public and to health professionals. Check out this site daily for a nutrition tip of the day.
  • www.heart.org  The American Heart Association provides nutrition information that is provided to help promote good heart health. Gives specific heart health information related to cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure and many more medical conditions.
